Oeko-tex

The Oeko-Tex Standard, issued by the Oeko-Tex Institute, is the most well known certification concerning the testing of restricted substances on textiles throughout Europe. The Oeko-Tex Institute is located in 17 countries around the world, including Germany, Switzerland, and Asia where YKK Europe has obtained its certification. Most textile and garment manufacturers try to acquire this certification for the export of goods, especially in the European market.

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 applies specifically to the testing of harmful substances on textiles.

Regulations

The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 regulation includes carcinogens amine, carcinogens dyes, allergens dyes, heavy metals, formalin, color fastness, organic volatiles, odors, chloro carrier, etc.

Dyestuffs

Since the Oeko-Tex Institute examines dyestuffs at their authorized testing lab, it is unnecessary to acquire a certificate from a dyestuff supplier.

YKK is acquiring the Oeko-Tex Standard 100

Since there have been increasing demands and quality issues concerning the use of restricted substances, YKK recognizes the importance of obtaining the Oeko-Tex Standard Certificate.

Therefore, YKK Europe and Asia are trying to acquire the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 (The most severe class in the Oeko-Tex Standard 100) for the use of standard items, except for products that are nickel plated or have nickel elements. As of January 2002, 33 of our plants in 27 countries have been certified. YKK Japan also hopes to attain certification by the middle of May.
